BaByliss PRO / Clubstar Art Team

After what has already been a fantastic year with the Clubstar Art Team we recently had the pleasure of collaborating with BaByliss PRO UK. To work with such a huge brand was an honour and a real highlight of my career so far. Everything about the build up and then the shoot itself was an amazing experience. 

So I'm going to take you back (not too far only a fortnight before the shoot) to our initial meeting with BaByliss PRO. We had the pleasure of holding our model casting & creative meeting at Spring Studios in London (such an amazing studio btw). The morning started meeting with brand marketing manager Sandra and PR and media manager Sharon from BaByliss along with our amazing photographer Paul Scala along with clothing stylist Kim and MUA JT. We set about coming up with a concept for our shoot, all of the ideas oozed freshness and a youthful edge that we as a team felt we wanted to express to the industry. So our brief quickly gained that theme "beautiful hair with a youthful edge" with a hint of the grunge textures from the 90's (hey young Kate Moss vibe). Then came the models and boy did they come (and come and come) the afternoon's casting brought so many models to choose from, the process of whittling it down to just 6 was a pretty tough task but we felt the models we chose best suited our brief of youthful and fresh. 

SHOOT DAY!

Now I can't drop the actual photos from the shoot just yet but we can all have a look at the behind the scene shots to give you all an idea of what we got up to before we get the official photos back. So I had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Charlie from established model agency. Working with the new range of BaByliss PRO tools "titanium expression" I got to work creating my looks, first of all working with very 'undone' waves working with a large tong running the rings along the hair in an up and down motion (picture a yo-yo action) and then dry shampoo like Kevin Murphy - Fresh Hair to give me an airy texture. My second look working with hair extensions to create false fringes, extensions for me are so essential when it comes to shoot days as 99% of agency models are not able to allow you to cut their own hair so having a pack of false hair piece's can really allow you create your own looks without upsetting an agency!. Once Charlie was in front of the camera I just fell in love with the vibe we had going on which is why I'm super excited for the images to be released! 

I feel what we created that day as a team really pushed what we had been doing beforehand to another level and hopefully people will see that in October at Salon International where we will be showcasing the amazing year we have had representing the fellowship for British hairdressing's Clubstar artistic team. Clubstar Art Team / Richard Phillipart

 

So yesterday saw the Clubstar Art Team share the day with Richard Phillipart as one of our mentoring days with the team. Richard's aim was to give us guys an insight into his world of session styling. He has quickly become one of the hottest names on the session scene which has allowed him to work backstage at shows for houses such as Chanel & Maison Margiela to name a few. His passion for the art and story telling of hair really shone through, he captured the imagination of all of us guys it was difficult not to fall in love with that side of hairdressing. 

Richard began showing us looks from a few of the A/W 15 shows and how we can adapt these looks to our salon work along with our upcoming stage presentations at Salon International 2015. 

His outlook for the future of our industry and how we can evolve the way we look at hair was so inspiring! It left me just itching to want to try fresh ideas and push myself creatively, which is the exact reason I applied for a place on the Clubstar Artistic Team this time last year!! So a huge thank you to Richard for his tips and insights, but most importantly for his time!

Fellowship Magazine

So if you've had a chance to read my 'about me' page you'll know i am part of the fellowship for british hairdressing's Clubstar artistic team. as part of the team we have amazing opportunities to showcase our skills and create beautiful collections, as well as a year long education programme to develop our skill's as individuals. The first collection we have created this year is called 'Sophisticate'. The brief was to capture strength and power within the look. Taking inspirations from the S/S 15 catwalk shows and how many of the top fashion houses (DKNY, Armani, Christopher Kane) worked with dual texture within the hair (dual texture meaning combining two elements together, i worked with wet look and dry look for this shoot). My look was created by using an extreme hold gel (crispy hair followed) and the amazing GHD aura hairdryer to create a gorgeous smoothness and shine to the hair. When applying the gel i took the hair and using a tint bowl and brush slicked each section tight to the head, the gel itself worked amazingly in creating exactly the look i was looking for which was a head defining shape with high shine. My model Tammy had such amazing hair for me to work with and once that girl was in front of the camera boy can she work it!.

All of these factors helped to create a look (below) that i am uber proud to show you guys. To see our collection feature in the 'Fellowship' magazine and to see my image leading the collection on this occasion was a beautiful way to start what was a gloomy tuesday morning. Seeing your work grace a full page is part of what make me fall in love with this industry we call hair more and more every single day.

Welcome to my world

Hey Guys

So....blogging is something I've always had a love for but i have never really ventured into creating my own, I've been far too busy just nosing around other peoples! But i feel now is the time for me to open my little world to you guys.

A little about me, So as the name suggests my name is Liam Paul and im 24 years old. Im a hairdresser currently plying my trade over in Birmingham. I've been extremely fortunate to represent several hairdressing art teams and currently represent the Michelle Griffin art team alongside the Fellowship for british hairdressings 'Clubstar art team' both these teams give me the opportunity to do what i love (hair of course) and to have a platform for stage work along with a chance to get my work into magazines. The aim of this blog is to share all things hair along with snippets of my own personal style.
