Liam Paul / Copper Ombre

Lets talk about Hair Colour...

In Salon i absolutely LOVE working with Revlon Professional's colour ranges. This look im popping on here today was created using their 'Colorsmetique' Range. This range gives gorgeous shine and a beautiful depth to colour to really allow for some amazing results.

The colour itself is a Blend from Lauren's natural base of a medium brown into a rich copper tone on the ends. i tailor made Lauren's copper tone by using 3 different tones to ensure depth and richness to her ends. Blowdried using Orofluido original elixir to ensure a glossy finish. and she also popped a bottle of 7/40 Colour Ball in her bag to upkeep the tone at home as a refresher treatment!

Liam Paul / INDY Hair

SOOO you've maybe realised i haven't been active on my blog of late...there is a couple of reasons for my lack of posts. One being that im totally unorganised haha, but the main reason for my disappearing act is that i have moved salons to be closer to home in Leicester.

So anyone who follows my other social media feeds will know i am now based at a Leicester city centre salon called 'Indy Hair' a beautiful salon situated in 'The Lanes' of Leicester.

Back to hair! so here is a snap of a cut from the salon floor just the other day. im really loving these length at the moment, clearing the shoulder with some blunt edges. with Bron's hair I've worked a beautiful blunt shape with some shattered texture afterwards to allow for movement but keeping that BLUNT feel!

Styling the hair with only a dryer (no brushes needed for this one) working Revlon Style Masters Modular mouse number 2 into the roots to give that lift and a D:FI Reshape Spray into the ends for gritty texture and then dried the hair encouraging movement with my hands (mainly screwing the hair up in my hands and lifting the roots) once dry i applied even more Reshape Spray! give it a final scrunch for old times sake and then snap away.

Fake it with Fellowship Hair

So last Monday saw me decend on the GHD academy in Leeds for a Fellowship event called "fake it".

An evening aimed at sharing experiences with hair extensions and how to utilise them in photographic and stage work. I really wanted to open the audiences eyes to the versatility with extensions and the creative options they give you for any form of creative work. Sometimes time can be your worst enemy when it comes to shooting a collection, so having an option to quickly turn a look on its head that isn't working for you creatively is invaluable.

With my model Nic I really wanted to show that theory whilst on stage. So I took Nic on with natural hair styled into a beautifully sleek shape and wanted to show how quickly I could build up a colour placement to change the style almost instantly and effortlessly. So working with pre coloured extensions in shades of black and silver and cut to contrasting lengths to expose the black and silver within Nic's copper base. Working in a triangle shape placement in the fringe I quickly built up a solid block of colour to create a new focal point. With the styling then creating internal movement to contrast with solid nature of the fringe.

It showed how quickly and easily you can expand the creative aspect of your hair styles without wasting time where time may be limited.

BaByliss PRO / Clubstar Art Team

So after my post a few months back about our collaboration with BaByliss PRO, I can finally share the final image that I created for the collection

The vibe was all about a Youthful culture inspired by rock and grunge textures. To create my look I worked with a clip on fringe that I razored to create a really shattered effect almost asif the model had taken the razor to her fringe herself creating something very raw. Texture wise I worked with the BaByliss PRO large waving wand and ran the wand up and down large sections of hair to create a very loose and disheveled effect. Then using a dry shampoo on the main body of the hair to encourage a Matte texture, but for the fringe using a wax to give me the seperation giving me a slight contrast within the textures.

I hope you guys like the vibe of the image, it was such an amazing experience collaborating with BaByliss PRO along with the Clubstar Art Team the whole collection I think showed the team at our best and really highlighted the talent the Clubstar programme has to offer for the Fellowship for the British Hairdressing.

Salon International

So a a few weeks have passed since Salon International 2015 (time is clearly escaping me too quickly!!!) And so i'm sat here just reflecting on what was a great weekend of sharing our latest collections with the audience but also having the chance to check out some of the other artists work over the weekend

First up was the Michelle Griffin art team with myself, Michelle and Evi. It was all about showcasing our new collection for 2015 "Conflict", for me conflict this year was all about working with conflicting textures and shapes. So working a gorgeous strong shape but with the softness of an internal texture and likewise some gorgeous textures but with a strength to the style coming in from a colour placement point of view in some of the looks. Whilst empowering our amazing models and capturing the strength and beauty of each individual.

On the Sunday we led hour long master classes for "Zen Hair" working with there fantastic range of hair extensions and showing the audience how to utilise their whole range and how best to market that within a salon environment. In between those slots I was lucky enough to grab some time to watch a few of my friends within the industry and catch a glimpse of what they were showcasing on various stages, which was actually so nice to get a chance to do as for the past couple of years at these kinds of events I haven't been able to catch a minute to myself to watch anything.

And then finally on the Monday I was on stage with my amazing Clubstar Art team team mates for what was our last show as a team and drew a close to what has been such a blooming amazing year.

It seems so strange to think that the year is over but looking back at our first presentation together and comparing it with our final show. It made me realise just quite how far we had come and none less than myself, by that I mean that when I think of my presentation and the nerves I felt on the first few shows compared to the feeling of enjoyment I had during the final show it was amazing! I mean don't get me wrong my hands were still shaking which was pretty scary as I was taking clippers to my models fringe (she was close to losing an eyebrow) but I was able to take a breath and soak up being on stage with 4 guys I know have become very good friends of mine and that was such a good feeling.

I'd recommend any body to get involved with such teams and it goes without saying that I'd recommend the Clubstar Art Team to anyone aged between 18-25 because as a young hairdresser it's sometimes hard to catch the break to get your self exposed in ways that clubstar and particularly the fellowship allow. It allows you to really gain a reputation and show the industry what is to come from you. Along with a chance to hone your skills and find yourself as an artist and the kind of work you want to showcase.  So I'd like to thank everyone who has been involved in allowing me to continue to develop myself whilst also allowing me to create the hairstyles I love creating. So BIG THANKS and BIG LOVE!

Hopefully see you again next year Salon International

Viviscal Professional / Liam Paul

When i first started thinking about writing a blog my main idea was to delve into the world of hair product recommendations and items relating to hair. It's such a vast and hugely competitive world out there when it comes to all things hair, if its not a product line launching a new shampoo, its somebody else with a new sea salt spray on the market. And don't even get me started on hair tools - tongs, rollers, stylers, dryers, wands...(you catch my drift)

So when i first met the guys from Viviscal Professional some 2 years ago, stood outside whisky mist in London waiting to enter a hairdressing event - we spoke about a hair supplement they were about to launch in the UK. Little did i know back then with what force they would be coming into the market with, having a very established backing in the form of Errol Douglas MBE and Adam Reed (if you are not familiar with these two gents...i beg you check them out).

Now i have never been one to try a hair supplement as i have never really allowed my hair to grow beyond 3 weeks before a fresh haircut (perks of the job i guess). But around about a year ago i decided it was time to embrace long hair and have been on a mission to grow my hair ever since. So once the initial rebellion of not having a haircut wore off i was left with that uber desirable "inbetween stage" hair...it was at that point i remembered my conversation with the guys at Viviscal and decided to do my homework before i committed to a programme. I am lucky enough to work for a salon that was actually interested in finding out more as well, so we invited one of the representatives into the salon for a insight into the concept and the science behind Viviscal Professional (which happened to be the lady who i queued outside whisky mist with). So after an amazing and very in-depth chat about the ingredients and internal benefits behind the supplement. I was asked if i would be interest in trialling the range (for 3 months) to see the results for myself and of course i said YES within around 0.03 seconds! i've already mentioned the inbetween stage was breaking me slowly.

So i have been taking the tablets now for 3 months, 2 a day. One in the morning with breakfast and one in the evening with my evening meal. So without boring you with hairdressing science (any hairdressers reading this will already know), hair works on a 3 month cycle and anything internally will take that amount of time to be seen in the hair. Which is why i knew i would not wake up after a week looking like Jared Leto in the long haired days (i can dream though aye). But i knew in taking these tablets i would be prolonging the growing phase of the hair cycle and also retaining hairs (as apposed to the dreaded hair brush covered in hair situation) and overall improving my hair health.

The initial 3 months are now complete and i have been extremely fortunate to be sent another 3 months supply through by the delightful Viviscal Professional representative Chloe, to continue the programme and continue to give them feedback with the progress of my locks. So after the 3 months my hair has grown a considerable amount and i'm half way to my target length. Now i have never previously measured my hair growth to a highly precise scale to be able to comment upon a rapid increase in hair growth. research shows that results are over 6 months, but some people have noticed results after only 3 months. So with that in mind i'm going to focus upon the condition and feel of my hair after this initial 3 month period. I've always had curly/wavy hair and since taking Viviscal Professional my hair seems more manageable, almost a "healthier" natural state. I have also noticed my hairline has retained hair and i'm noticing shorter hairs (due to re growth) which is amazing to see as a 25 year old i was not enjoying seeing my scalp through my hair. Hair loss and thinning is something most people are conscious of especially in males. The amount of male clients in the salon who ask me about the hairline increases year upon year. We only have to look at the celebrity world to see how many males are trying to regain a substantial hairline/hair growth (Wayne Rooney is a prime example). It has given me a comfort when looking at my hairline now which sounds crazy to say and almost vain, but it is something which i was becoming aware of.
So now the initial 3 months are up, i am going to continue to take Viviscal Professional supplements. I am happy with the results i'm seeing so far and i'm satisfied with the science behind the product to know that i am going to continue to see results. I'm confident they are aiding my hair growth, and ensuring that when my hair gets to the length i am looking for it will be in its best possible state. They are also providing the best environment for my hair to grow and retain a healthiness that everyone should be craving, especially me as i want that desirable hair i have craved for some time now!

BaByliss PRO / Clubstar Art Team

After what has already been a fantastic year with the Clubstar Art Team we recently had the pleasure of collaborating with BaByliss PRO UK. To work with such a huge brand was an honour and a real highlight of my career so far. Everything about the build up and then the shoot itself was an amazing experience.

So I'm going to take you back (not too far only a fortnight before the shoot) to our initial meeting with BaByliss PRO. We had the pleasure of holding our model casting & creative meeting at Spring Studios in London (such an amazing studio btw). The morning started meeting with brand marketing manager Sandra and PR and media manager Sharon from BaByliss along with our amazing photographer Paul Scala along with clothing stylist Kim and MUA JT. We set about coming up with a concept for our shoot, all of the ideas oozed freshness and a youthful edge that we as a team felt we wanted to express to the industry. So our brief quickly gained that theme "beautiful hair with a youthful edge" with a hint of the grunge textures from the 90's (hey young Kate Moss vibe). Then came the models and boy did they come (and come and come) the afternoon's casting brought so many models to choose from, the process of whittling it down to just 6 was a pretty tough task but we felt the models we chose best suited our brief of youthful and fresh.

SHOOT DAY!
Now I can't drop the actual photos from the shoot just yet but we can all have a look at the behind the scene shots to give you all an idea of what we got up to before we get the official photos back. So I had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Charlie from established model agency. Working with the new range of BaByliss PRO tools "titanium expression" I got to work creating my looks, first of all working with very 'undone' waves working with a large tong running the rings along the hair in an up and down motion (picture a yo-yo action) and then dry shampoo like Kevin Murphy - Fresh Hair to give me an airy texture. My second look working with hair extensions to create false fringes, extensions for me are so essential when it comes to shoot days as 99% of agency models are not able to allow you to cut their own hair so having a pack of false hair piece's can really allow you create your own looks without upsetting an agency!. Once Charlie was in front of the camera I just fell in love with the vibe we had going on which is why I'm super excited for the images to be released!

I feel what we created that day as a team really pushed what we had been doing beforehand to another level and hopefully people will see that in October at Salon International where we will be showcasing the amazing year we have had representing the fellowship for British hairdressing's Clubstar artistic team. As soon as the images are in the press you guys will be able to check them out on here! Keep your eyes peeled
